NEW BUSINESS IN TOWN
PLEDGES TO HELP RESIDENTS INCREASE THE COMFORT, HEALTH AND SAFETY
OF THEIR HOMES, CONSERVE ENERGY AND SAVE MONEY.
Hot Shotz Thermal Imaging Services
LLC,
owned and operated by W. Mark Watkins of Oakland Md, is open for
business and taking appointments.
Thermal Imaging
is a method of constructing an image of the scene using infrared
radiation rather than traditional visible methods. Thermal imaging
is both no contact and nondestructive.
Thermography can be used to perform
residential and commercial infrared energy audits for heating and
cooling losses due to poor construction, missing or
inadequate insulation and moisture intrusion. Thermal Imaging
is the primary diagnostic procedure for determining the thermal
performance of a building envelope.
“My
job is to help people stay comfortable and save money on their
energy bills.” During his employment with the weatherization
dept. of the Garrett County Community Action, Mark was placed in
charge of teaching classes to the public on Low Cost – No Cost
methods of maintaining comfort and saving energy. Mark has always
had a knack for staying cozy in Garrett Co. “Our first house was
old and cold, very fine snow flakes would blow into our home under
the window sills and around the jams, so I caulked the entire
house from the inside, putting an end to the snow and air
infiltration." That was 28 years ago, and Mark is still tracking
down cold spots today, but now he’s gone hi-tech!
Mark completed his thermographer
certification course in NJ. March of 07 from the Infraspection
Institute
www.infraspection.com. Since then he has inspected,
condominiums, old homes, new homes, log homes and churches.
“Sorry to say, even some of the newest homes are lacking
insulation and fall short of energy conservation standards.” Hot
Shotz conducts a 20 point inspection in conjunction with side by
side thermal and digital images all of which are used to generate
a detailed electronic and or hard copy report. Mark then works
with the residence to determine the best course of mitigation.
Allegheny Power has promised a rate increase of up to 80% in
the next two years. Be sure to read all the literature that
accompanies your electric bill for details and for procuring the
least expensive alternative supplier. If Allegheny remains your
default provider you will be paying top dollar for electricity!

The darker areas of the thermal image represent cold spots and
the lack of insulation.
